"Good"...News to A&E?

First of all, let me tell you about one "interesting" conversation. Happened on 1st day of Hari Raya.

Busy in A&E. And my colleague (Dr.S) has got a call from surgical ward (by Dr.A).

Dr A: "Hi is this Dr.S?"

Dr S: "Yes speaking?"

Dr A: "I have just seen a case admitted by you, a man with ribs fracture?"

Dr S: "Yes I admitted him. Anything?"

Dr A: "Actually why did you admit him? Are you sure that he's got ribs fracture?"

Dr S: "Yes. I think the Xray is with him. Have you seen it?"

Dr A: "Yes and that's why I call. I DON'T see any rib fracture on the Xray."

Dr S: "Actually you're a..."

Dr A: "I'm a houseman."

Dr S: "Ok...has your MO seen the Xray as well?"

Dr A: "Not really..."

Dr S: "Great. Listen, if you do not know how to look for rib fracture on the Xray, doesn't mean there's no fracture. Next time PLS call only after you consulted your MO."

Dr A: "Ok..and by the way, I'm on call today and it's a public holiday. PLS make sure you admit case properly ok." *hang up*

Amazing? Houseman called and questioned MO's diagnosis in such a rude way.

So as a result, my colleague got so pissed off and she gave a call to the MO on call that day.
The next thing we know is, the houseman was given a double-strength Extra-clean brushing(a.k.a Gosok) by his MO.

But this is not the end of the story.

The next best thing is, the houseman has just joined A&E department. Alone. Reported duty yesterday. He's gonna tag under my colleague.

I really wonder what is going to happen. *wink*

can i ask a question? did the patient had rib fracture??

i think, if a dr (even someone as small as an HO) is certain of his diagnosis, he should consult his superior and defend the diagnosis, investigate further, for the benefit of patients.. in a respectful nice way..

i guess, sometimes MO makes mistakes too, although very rare... i have seen cases where med students 'accidently' pick up history/pe that were missed by attending HOs and HO refused to listen to them.. in the end, patients suffers.. so, the students had to take it to the specialist.. (not too good for the HO, ei?)

i have to agree though, that we should all have respect to our seniors (and even juniors).. after all, everyone's working in a team.. it's like colleagues.. and it's not so hard, just trying to be nice...

lastly, i think we shouldn't judge a person solely based on which university they grad.. and, we should all be proud of our university.. ^^

shinyin: Ya the thing is, there's an obvious rib fracture=(

Of course no one is perfect and free of mistake. It's not rare (but also not very common) that sometimes HO might find some MO's plans not so right then they can always discuss in a polite way. Coz questioning other ppl's diagnosis/work is always a sensitive thing - especially in a reverse way e.g. junior to senior.

After all, no matter how good you are, medical care is about teamwork. Attitude and PR is quite important I must say!;)

hey, i know him too! He's from AIMST, sg petani. Very very cocky..walks with a hand in his pocket. Heard from his colleague from medical & surgical that he's super cocky. Nearly (or had he?) got extended in medical...

Never work with him though..

btw, he said he's from an 'overseas private uni'? Hmm...not sure of that, unless i'm mistaken.

Li Ying: No you're right. Saw his chop today. Where got oversea uni..><
